Position Summary:
The Senior Engineering Program Manager position within the Walchem Engineering Department will work as part of a growing team responsible for the development and support of monitoring and control systems used in industrial markets such as utility water treatment, wastewater treatment, food and beverage, and plating. The Senior Engineering Program Manager will lead a team of electrical, mechanical, and embedded software R&D engineers and technicians responsible for the development of new products and enhancements to existing products. This is a great opportunity to exercise leadership and develop new and innovative products as part of a dynamic research and development team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIRED FUNCTIONS
- Lead the team through the New Product Development lifecycle phases for multi-processor embedded products, sensing technologies, and enhancements to improve existing products
- Coordinate cross-functional teams of embedded software developers, mechanical designers, electronic engineers, and technicians to quickly and efficiently bring products to market
- Responsible for project scope, schedule and budget
- Successfully coordinate project phases including research, requirements development, design reviews, prototyping, release to production, and commercialization
- Develop and manage budgets for the program including resource loading, external expenses, and capital requirements
- Prioritize team efforts to meet the program schedule
- Communicate regularly and clearly to internal and external program stakeholders
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, and other departments to ensure seamless project execution
- Work with the team to identify and manage program risk
- Manage efforts to enhance the capabilities of the engineering team by coordinating engineering consultants, facilitating mentorship, hiring, and staff management
- Facilitate a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork that strives to improve in quality, safety, delivery, and cost
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical or computer preferred)
- 10+ years of engineering design and development experience
- Previous involvement in engineering program/project management including costing, scheduling, and vendor management
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and critical thinking skills
- Strong planning skills including defining requirements, time estimating, stakeholder communications at each phase of project, documentation, and testing
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies and tools
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree a plus
- Comfortable and adaptable presenting to different audiences and levels of the organization
- Broad engineering background sufficient to analyze design data related to electrical, software, mechanical, and physical science disciplines. The position requires working with subject matter experts to make design trade-offs with respect to cost and performance
- Highly motivated, resourceful and creative solution finder
- Ability to work in an environment with competing priorities; effective at dealing with change and ambiguity as business needs shift, demonstrating flexibility while ensuring compliance
- Highly proficient user of project management software, Excel, Power Point, and Word
